A new method for quantifying treeline-ecotone change based on multiple spatial pattern dimensions

چکیده
Treeline-ecotone spatial patterns and their dynamics reflect underlying processes. Changes in ecotone pattern may changes natural drivers or land-use practices. However, characterizing these presents a major challenge, limiting our ability to map, understand predict the upper limits of mountain forests. This paper proposes new method using multiple dimensions describe treeline-ecotone shifts. standardized protocol should be able (i) distinguish different types within large study area, (ii) characterize temporal shifts between two more dates. We mapped alpine treeline ecotones (ATE) at 648 sites eastern French Pyrenees aerial images from ~ 1955 2015, identifying forest non-forest areas hillslope scale. Extracted patch metrics were summarized Principle Component Analysis (PCA) change was quantified shift PCA space compared elevational Three clusters distinguished: diffuse, discrete island-forming ATEs. Between about half changed one cluster another. Shifts into ATEs associated with smaller negative shifts, while diffuse coincided highest positive The proposed allows repeatable quantification vegetation based on historical imagery. Seeing importance for biodiversity, we encourage use this better treelines globally.

15 صفحه اولA New Method for Spatial Health Risk Assessment of Pollutants
Background: The area of contaminated lands exposed to the health risk of environmental pollutants is a matter of argument. In this study, a new method was developed to estimate the amount of area that is exposed to higher than normal levels of Cr, Mn, and V. Methods: Overall, 170 soil samples were collected from the upper 10 cm of soil in an arid area in central part of Iran in Semnan Provin...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Spatial Analysis Method Using Ground-Based Repeat Photography to Detect Changes in the Alpine Treeline Ecotone, Glacier National Park, Montana, U.S.A
Repeat photography is a powerful tool for detection of landscape change over decadal timescales. Here a novel method is presented that applies spatial analysis software to digital photo-pairs, allowing vegetation change to be categorized and quantified. This method is applied to 12 sites within the alpine treeline ecotone of Glacier National Park, Montana, and is used to examine vegetation chan...
متن کاملGeomorphic Controls of Spatial Pattern and Process at Alpine Treeline*
This study examines the role of surface geomorphic features in tree establishment at the alpine treeline in Glacier National Park, Montana, through the presentation of a multiscale, conceptual model of biogeomorphic relationships at alpine treeline. Empirical observations gathered through a multiscale field methodology over three summers serve as a base for the model. The model highlights the i...
متن کاملA NEW MULTIPLE CRITERIA DECISION-MAKING METHOD BASED ON BIPOLAR FUZZY SOFT GRAPHS
In this research study, we present a novel frame work for handling bipolar fuzzy soft information by combining bipolar fuzzy soft sets with graphs. We introduce several basic notions concerning bipolar fuzzy soft graphs and investigate some related properties. We also consider the application of the bipolar fuzzy soft graphs. In particular, three efficient algorithms are developed to solve mult...
